                       Vocabulary Scramble
Vocabulary definitions are completed in a different way than what many of you are used to. I give the definitions and words on a chart form (the words in one column with the definitions in the other). On the back they lightly number the box and the corresponding definition. They then cut them apart and can practice and self-check for their test on Thursday. Hopefully you will find this helpful. They will keep their bag of definitions in their homework folder on the bring back side, so that they may practice them both at home and at school. Please help encourage students to keep track of their vocabulary words each week.

                         Spelling Self-Test
One of our third grade goals is to help our students become more independent and responsible, while instilling some helpful study techniques. If getting your student to study spelling words is becoming a problem, make them responsible for the task. Invest in a small tape player that records voice. Have your child say their spelling words into the tape player leaving a short pause between each word. They can then give themselves the spelling test by pressing play and then pausing when they need to write the word. They can also self-check their test against the spelling list. I do recommend, that they complete this activity within an observable range of a parent to ensure they are truly testing themselves.
